However, there are measures you can take to protect yourself from the fallout.

North Korea launched a satellite a few weeks back and the fear is that it has a nuclear weapon on board that if push comes to shove the Kim Jong can either launch or detonate the nuke when it is over the US. The resulting explosion and EMP could knock out all sorts of electronic gear that so many rely on.

Question is: If such a counter weapon existed that would stop or deflect a nuclear blast would our current Gov. protect us and deploy it or would they allow the destruction to happen for some odd political gain?

I would think that is such a "shield" would exist, the US government would deploy it to protect us. The problem is that a shield of that size is not possible.

I can only assume that any government, not just ours, would try to protect itself first, much like the human body trying to protect itself. For example, when the body is exposed to the cold and starts losing too much heat, the brain and heart concentrate in maintaining core heat as much as possible, and blood flow to the extremities becomes less important. Therefore, a government would first protect its brain (the chain of command), and its heart (resources such as soldiers, weapons, food, etc.).

But no defense yet against an nuclear weapon. Of course there are missiles that can take down another missile but I mean something that when a nuclear bomb goes of it neutralizes it resulting in no explosion. There must be a way.
If it existed what effect would a gravity wave (or bubble) generating device that could increase gravity at the point of detonation have?

Maybe being slightly out of phase with this dimension would offer thermonuclear protection. Something similar to this Star Trek clip.

Theres no defense against a nuclear weapon only a bluff policy called MAD that makes the using of a nuclear weapon rather pointless.

Quote:
Mutual assured destruction, or MAD, is a doctrine of military strategy and national security policy in which a full-scale use of nuclear weapons by two or more opposing sides would cause the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender

MAD works now since nuclear weapons are only in the hands of state leaders and even the craziest leader realizes MAD. What concerns me is when a nuclear weapon falls into the hands of someone crazy and nothing to lose, MAD won't stop them. There are so many nuclear weapons out there, I believe it is something like 5000. And more and more countries are getting their hands on them, I believe Pakistan has them and talk about a very unstable nation. I think it is safe to say that eventually one of these nations will fall apart and lose control of at least one of the nuclear weapons.

Very concerning that there seems to not even be a theoretical defensive system.

If a rogue nation or ISIS gets its hands on nuclear weaponry and decides to use it then theres not any protection i can think of to combat such action.
In the meantime we still have the capability of turning the world and every living thing in it to a pile of slag.

Russia is the only country with tech to stop hypersonic ICBMs and it isn't 100%.

It's not the destruction it's the speed you have to defeat.

What we forget is that IF any of these UFOs people are seeing belong to our military, then we already have access to immense power and probably the use of this power.

I suspect that nuclear is already old technology and so the superpowers have moved beyond this form of weaponry. However as noted, there are many organisations and smaller countries which do not have an alternative to nuclear so it becomes a matter of detecting and protecting.

Of course, this is all only speculation but it would make sense if some of these UFOs are US/Russian/Chinese.
