Do you think much of the near-future? Within 25 years? If you do, what infrastructure changes would you like to see in the United States/World?
Me, I've always dreamed of converting town centers to greenways...
What would you think of a plan where:
(I use Philadelphia as an example)- All parking garages within the black area (arbitrarily drawn) were converted to Residents only. One spot assigned to each resident. Each resident can only have parking in one parking tower. Number of parking spaces assigned to equal the number of drivers in a building.
- All other parking is considered superfluous and is therefore converted to some other need.
- No parking is alloted for any other parking - not for commuters, or for tourists.
- Secure underground parking is provided for commuters on the black border.
- At the border adjacent to the commuter parking is a transit station with continuous cars... always moving, one always available within 1 minute (a' la a Disney park ride) These "trams" run at a constant 25 mph with speed matching jump on/off stations. These cars can be routed to within a 2 block walk to any point inside.
- Freight being delivered into the black zone would use a similar transport system - except for smaller with the ability to route packages to within 1 block of any point. For large/construction deliveries a permit system would be available to run the former streets.
- The elderly and infirmed would use still another system that could take them directly to their destination via something akin to a fancy electric golf cart.
Now that all vehicle rudimentary traffic has been removed, all streets are converted to plazas and greenways where only pedestrians and Human Powered Vehicles are permitted.
Outside the black zone, traffic remains as it is today with no other restrictions.
