Yes, as long as you have the equipment necessary to find the bugs. It's readily available on online stores, but I imagine that when you look for it online red flags are raised and "certain people or agencies" can tell what you are interested on.
Sure it is possible. It doesn't mean the room can't still be bugged from a distance or that someone with a cellphone doesn't have a hack that allows it. The old "cone of silence" no longer is enough.
