or am I reading too many mystery/suspense novels?

You've heard the line: we've checked for bugs and the room is clear. Meaning no hidden cameras, recorders, or other snoop devices.

Is it possible to really do that?

Yes, as long as you have the equipment necessary to find the bugs. It's readily available on online stores, but I imagine that when you look for it online red flags are raised and "certain people or agencies" can tell what you are interested on.

I'm not really concerned about it here.

Just wondering, if it's possible, why nobody has started a business checking for electronic bugs in houses before people move in.

Thanks for the responses.

Sure it is possible. It doesn't mean the room can't still be bugged from a distance or that someone with a cellphone doesn't have a hack that allows it. The old "cone of silence" no longer is enough.

Yes and you can keep it that way by lining the room with foil, then nothing can get in/out..... The guy in ENEMY OF THE STATE did that in his secret office building.......
