A clone is akin to an identical twin. An identical twin does not share the memories, thoughts, values, and experiences of the other twin. Neither would a clone. I suspect a scientist might be more interested in cloning Marilyn Monroe or Einstein.
In principle, I don't see any reason why not. In practice, it's not too hard to imagine a lot of legal issues that could arise, even if there were no laws prohibiting it. For instance, who is the parent of a cloned human baby?
It's conceivable that a very rich and amoral person might want a clone as a source for spare parts. Should that be legal? I'd say no, but how would you prevent it?
How do we know someone hasn't? It is a big planet.
Exactly, no one knows for a fact it has NOT been done, just because there is a law against it, means absolutely nothing.
Its a safe bet there is probably some illegal R&D going on somewhere in relation to cloning. There is just too much potential for HUGE profits if this could be done successfully.
I’m not sure why anyone would want to do so, scientist or not. The idea has zero appeal to me.
