Iím looking to write a story about a scientist in the Star Wars galaxy who is working on something but itís NOT something cliche and obvious like teleportation, immortality, a time machine or matter replicator. Iím looking for something very different and esoteric and also hasnít been done before.

Any ideas?

Actually, immortality plays a big role in the Star Wars universe. It's just not approached from a scientific angle, but comes from the esoteric one of "The Force". The Sith look for ways to cheat death and achieve immortality. That's how Anakin got seduced to the dark side.

Perhaps you could focus on information technology and it's applications, which seems to be lacking in Star Wars.

How about a human mission to another planet that has life on it and the first thing the humans do is convince them to open McDonalds, Starbucks, nail salons, and check checking places in tacky strip malls? And, most importantly, convert them to our religion.

When you think about it, that doesnt make sense for the Sith trying to defeat death, since we have seen, when a person strong with the force dies, they become even more powerful, they merge with the force, why would they want to remain mortal then?

The emperor tricked Anakin by telling him there was a way to cheat death, the only reason he did that, was because he knew, at the time, Anakin was very concerned with her health and greatly feared her dying, leaving him alone (just like what happened to his mother).
