That is a really interesting slide show. For some reason I have always had a fascination with Pompeii and to a lesser extent the Minoan civilization and the effects of the eruption of Thera (Santorini). I was surprised that Krakatoa wasn't on the list though.

Yeap i've heard some of the shows on Coast to Coast over the last several years as it sounds kind of scary from what the Geologists are saying.

Well i'm glad you mentioned about Mt. Krakatoa as i didn't know of the explosion until i just read about the 1883 eruption on Wikipedia as the explosion was the strength of 13,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs as i just can't understand how Discover Magazine didn't know about this.

Very interesting Lady Ice

Here is an interesting article on the tsunami caused by Krakatoa if you are interested. It says that while the tsunami caused by the collapse of Krakatoa was largely local because of the geography of the area, there were other tsunamis recorded as far away as the American west coast and even the English Channel! These tsunamis were caused by the atmospheric pressure of the explosion. I've known about this eruption all of my life, I wonder why it's not as well known there?

KRAKATOA (KRAKATOA VOLCANO) - THE GREAT TSUNAMI OF AUGUST 26, 1883 FROM THE EXPLOSION OF THE KRAKATAU VOLCANO ("krakatoa") IN INDONESIA - by Dr. George Pararas-Carayannis

That was an interesting read Lady Ice ..... and to imagine seeing tidal waves that were 120 ft tall (37m) would have been an incredible site to see.
