I prefer a zombie apocalypse to happen! Hey, at least it'll be for for a bit, before you join the ranks of the undead dead army and end in decay.

I think what will happen to the current species is via DNA engineering we will make much more genetically advanced species of our own species, and other species. Probably 150 to 200 years in the future there will be many sentient species on this planet. They will think much faster than us, and have a brain that is much more efficient than ours. They will not age, and not succumb to current dieses. They may even be able to photosynthesis the suns light for energy.........................

I hope we make robots that eventually take over, like the next step in evolution.

The human race will only get extinguished through a few possibilities:

1) Meteor strike renders Earth uninhabitable, causing the atmospheric content to change dramatically, causing a slow death to most animal and plant life.
2) Cataclysmic seimic activities cause Earth's crust to disintegrate. This will only happen is a massive object passes close to Earth.
3) Gamma ray burst or supernova of a nearby star. It would basically cook our planet and we could survive for maybe a week before people tried to go outside and die of radiation and / or heat exposure.
4) Widespread thermonuclear holocaust rendering the atmosphere so contaminated by radiation that plant life and animal life cannot be sustained. Radioactive rain contaminate the groundwater and the plants, thus rendering all crops inedible and all animals will die from lack of potable water within days. If it is slow enough, it may cause a nuclear winter which would devastate crop yields and cause widespread famine and war, though, humankind wouldn't necessarily die out.
5) Freak solar flare of a magnitude never seen before completely cooking our atmosphere.

From my standpoint, a superbug or disease cannot wipe out humanity because a number of people will be immune, or at the very least, be able to live with the disease long enough to procreate and lay the foundations for future generations to survive. Other scenarios I consider being so extremely improbable to wipe out humanity it doesn't deserve mention are hostile alien encounters, terrorism, conventional war.

Let's consider how our greed and inability to coexist with other human and nonhuman animals as well as poisoning of our oceans and destruction of our rain forests right now as the fundamental cause for extinction. I suggest reading, Easter Island.

Welcome to C-D waterfires. Yes, that could do it if we don't ease up and start using less destructive alternatives. There are a lot of possible ways the human race could become extinct, including by our own doing.
