What recent technological discovery has had the most significant impact in the human species?

In my opinion it is the discovery of electricity. This eventually led to computers, and finally led to the internet and world wide web. These discoveries have helped us become more efficient in everything and has accelerated and improved communication and globalization. Furthermore, these new efficiencies will aid us to discover even more technologies!

What do you think?

Yes, define recent.

The cup for drinking water is pretty useful.
Indoor plumbing is really nice. So is indoor hot water.

The reason for my ambiguity is just to allow open responses. In what ever you define as recent, what technological discovery has had the most significant impact in the human species? Im just trying to have an open discussion about technology and its impact on "modern" (ambiguous again ) life.

Flight (any method), too many reasons to list. However, my top 3 are world changers:

1) Wars
2) Travel
3) Space exploration

Did you just read the list and not the sentences above it? I don't think you read my post right, I said FLIGHT is the discovery which impacted the human species in 3 major ways.

1) the automobile
2) the computer
3) the cellphone

They're not only technological advances that have made life "easier", they're also the first examples of "personal" (and disposable) "hi-technology", that have all had an enormous impact on human culture and how we relate to each other.
