I'm considering buying a house with one of those green electrical transformer boxes in the front yard. The box is about 10 feet away from the house. What are thoughts on how much EMF's these transformer boxes produce? What are the health risks of living so close to one of these boxes? Given that I will be pregnant in the next few years, this is also a concern. Thanks!
I think the utility company has right of way or an easement even if it is on your property. Try planting some attractive bushes around it to hide the ugly box but would still allow utility personnel access.
IIRC the box is made of steel, a form of iron, and contains the electromagnetic fields. I do not know of any evidence of any interaction between the low frequency fields radiated by electrical power lines and humans.
also, the voltage in residential distribution systems (that which is supplying your transformer) is 7.2kv; the electromagnetic field is probably less than an inch around the conductor.

yes it has an emf; but its not going to hurt you.
you're exposed to emf's right now on a daily basis far greater than this transformer emits.
