The rail that entered Tacoma in the late 1800s brought many Asian rail workers here...

And while riding the light rail from Sea-Tac airport to Downtown, I observed the same thing.

So why is there a huge Asian-American population in the Seattle area?

I'm just curious. I live in Dallas, where there's an enormous Latino population. So I was wondering about the Asian population in the Pacific Northwest.

Is Seattle a haven for Asian-Americans?

Whites tend to live in the very nice parts of town, like Madison Park, Madrona, Magnolia, Bellevue, Blue Ridge, Queen Anne.

There are exceptions in every area, but mostly Seattle tends to self-segregate. I'm not sure why. Everyone purports to be very liberal, but they live amongst themselves. It seems that their liberalism extends beyond their own neighborhood.

I know many that are very eager to describe their efforts to help people in other nations -- very far away from their own neighborhoods.

Of course, everyone that lives in Seattle because they like it. It's a nice place to live, except for a few downsides.
What are you talking about? Areas in Southeast Seattle have the greatest Asian populations outside of Chinatown. Beacon Hill and the Rainier Valley all have 30-50% Asians. Yes, there are large African American concentrations there, but there are also a lot of Hispanics and Asians there as well.

Yup, Daly City near San Fran. =)

Few to no Filipino restaurants in Seattle. There's a tiny one in Pike Place Market that doesn't really count since it has 3 or 4 stools. Another small one around 50th and University that is open at odd hours so I've never tried it yet. After that the only other place I know is in Renton by Great Wall and I've never tried that place either. If there are any decent ones in Seattle or on the Eastside I do not know about them.

Inay's Pacific Grill on Beacon Hill is pretty good, and so is Kawali Grill on Rainier Avenue.

Ah, well. Primarily because Seattle and the surrounding area is a HUGE US Navy apex due to the PSNS base plus sub-bases, etc. LOTS of the men from the navy who were in the Korean/Vietnam/Etc wars settled in this area and they brought back with them a very large amount of Asian women.

Who then procreated. Thus, huge faction of Asians now within the population.

There is also a proximity factor to take into effect. Proximity both to the Asian countries as wellas proximity to Vancouver BC, which is another huge apex for the Asians (and Persians) mixed into the population.

Th Bon Odori is a must. Great culture. I think the Seattle Buddhist temple just had their Bon. I don't know if they still have a Bon Odori at White River in Kent. It is great if you are a young single male. All the good looking Asian-American girls were there?

I had experienced a few episodes growing up, but mostly through ignorance rather than overt racism. Nothing in Seattle compared to when I lived back East.
