so later this year we are planning on moving to seattle from houston tx, just had a few questions about apartments and stuff. looking to move close to the city but not too close to where its super expensive. here we live about 30-45 min away from houston and pay 1k rent 3 bedrooms kinda small 900 sqf, not including utilities. Looking to get a 2 bedroom somewhere outside of seattle, kinda close mabey 30 min to an hour away. Im hoping its like ehre and a wee bit cheaper than actually staying in close to the city. Anything about prices you can tell me would be amazing. thank you

Default Moving to WA

I would suggest going to rent.net and apartmentratings.com. Due to the nature of the economy apartments are going for reduced rates so I am sure you could find a 2 bedroom between $800-$1000. You might even find them closer in to Seattle for that price. Craigslist is also a good place to look.
FWIW - if you have children I would pay close the school district that was my #1 factor in chosing where to live, along with commute.

My DH manages our rentals -- no, we have nothing available, but he says Craigslist is his favorite rental advertising. Everyone uses it. I would guess you can get a good idea of rents per bed/bath, by area there.

You can also check apartments.com or apartmentfinder.com. Prices will range all over the place from under $700 to over $1,300. Deals can be found if you look. Although, outside of King county housing tends to be cheaper. Look in South Snohomish County. It's cheaper, but still not too far from Seattle. Even Everett area isn't too far from Seattle...30-45mins if traffic isn't horrible.

Howdy Texas!

My hubby/I moved from Houston also. Hubby got a job. Back in 2000. Lived in W.Houston. Near West Oaks Mall. Now we live in the Lacey/Olympia area. Olympia is the capital and an hour away from Seattle. WA is very different from Texas. Slower pace and it the rain gets old. It is pretty. Love to chat more. Please email: GLuvsCats@aol.com

I live in Tacoma it is about 25-30 minutes south of Seattle and rent is way more reasonable! It would do no good at all to tell you what we pay for our 1 bdrm because it is an old bldg and we have lived here for yrs and cant afford to move because of the growth here! but you can definately find something you would like for what you can afford as long as you dont want to be IN Seattle or east of it for that matter.

Keep in mind that an affordable place in Washington is usually smaller than an equivalent place in Tx. An 800 condo in the Seattle area is probably only 700 square feet.
