Default N. Seattle area

Hi! I'm looking at different neighborhoods and I've found a few I like, but I might be working in the N. Seattle area, around Aurora and 125th N. I, unfortunately, live in Orlando and can't just go for a cruise around the block to check it out. I "looked around" on Google Earth and it doesn't look like much but what is the housing like around there off of Phinney? Is that area scary? Give me your honest opinion of it. Would a girl by herself be safe here?

Any input would be appreciated. I really like Fremont but I would rely on buses and bikes and I'm afraid that the trip up to 125th would be troublesome/timely.

Thanks, and you guys have a great city. I hope I get a chance to join you soon.

Phinney Ridge is right off the zoo, very eclectic area. Very close to Greenlake. Lots of old style homes and new condos.

Seattle is VERY safe compared to Orlando. Since it's Aurora ave, there's going to be some trace of undesirable elements, so always be alert and smart. But probably nothing will ever happen to you.

I would agree with the previous comment. Compared to most cities in the USA, Seattle is very nice and a relatively safe place to live. Exercise good judgment, don't walk alone at night if you can help it and stay out of 'dodgy' areas. Green Lake is a good area. Lots of great restaurants, shops and night life here for a young person. I moved back here recently after being gone for nearly 20 years and can honestly say it is one of the nicest places I have ever lived and I have lived in a few places . People are friendly, the views are awesome and public transport in downtown Seattle is very good! Welcome to Washington State!

In Orlando-speak: Some parts of Aurora are similar to South OBT - not next to I4, more like the Oakridge area in appearance with 1/4 of the danger. It's reminicent of the Edgewood area where Orange Avenue crosses Oakridge.

Phinney Ridge is not near 125th....it's more 45th to 55th

As a single girl I would say try not to be on Aurora, it's not the safest area, usually known for motels and hookers. Although it has been better and you are in the higher numbers and closer to Shoreline.

I would say if you can afford it - live in Fremont - it's the perfect Seattle experience.

Lake City is a "bargain" NE Seattle neighborhood with good bus transit downtown. I liked it.

Thanks everyone for telling me like it is. When I said "Phinney" I meant the road, not Phinney Ridge, the area.

Robineli- thanks for the Orlando-speak. That makes it a heck of a lot easier to comparison shop!

I'll have to look into the Lake City area, thanks for the tip.

My concern isn't so much price as it is convenience to bus lines on Aurora (is it the 358 bus?).
