hey all

As a long time east coaster, I am in a position to head out west and seek employment. My background is in engineering so I applied to the obvious Boeing corp , but was wondering if folks here had the names of any other reputable engineering firms in the area. Sure, I could just hop on career builder and search the area, but I find its best to get direct links to web pages and harass them personally - especially given the number of unemployed folks for each position.

thanks in advance!

Well, one firm that you might consider going to if you don't mind being a contractor is Volt engineering. If you have specific skills which the Boeing company needs, they go to Volt if they don't have it in-house. Volt contracts with a lot of other places too. Fluke Engineering (no joke, that's the name) makes a lot of the test equipment. Raisbeck design group is also out here, major aerospace design firm. I actually took a class in college at Purdue that was funded by them, pretty cool, taught me the basics of aircraft design.

That's just for aerospace.

There's so much in terms of engineering focus out here it is hard to give specific details without a personal skill set. There's electrical, computer, software, medical, biomedical, controls, environmental, process, industrial, civil, and mechanical engineering firms out here. You'll have to be a little more specific on what you want. The big names out here that are hiring engineers are Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and that's just in IT/tech.

Thanks for the names. will be looking into all of them. My specialties are mechanical engineering, research, quality engineering and even business operations ( I owned a business but it ran out of capitol). I have all the typical skill sets most people in my field have: CAD, programming, Microsoft suite products as well as IT and networking experience.

A career in aerospace would be interesting. I like FEA analysis, fluid dynamics and simulation but have already applied to the positions at Boeing which call for those skillsets.

Thinkjobs.com does engineering jobs. They got me a job, once. And they list how much they pay for a postion. And they pay pretty good. Figured I'd mention it.
