Having lived in Washington for over 30 yrs. now. I am leaving asap.
Very high cost of living-
Highest gas taxes in the nation-
Highest property taxes-
Commute times, can be minimum of 30 to 1.5 hrs or more.
Lakes are great if you have and can afford a boat and can get access to them.
Food cost are out of line-
Noise pollution-

However, if you are young and work in the high tech, or legal field and can make $100,000+/yr then you will get by-
Oh, yeah, the rain, July 4th today and rainey morning, every year.....

80's one day 60's the next....
Sorry folks time to part out.
Family was from Issaquah, a founder, when there were 600 people in town it was the best place. Great fishing etc.
Now, NO fishing in the creeks, and limited elsewhere.

I hope you find a place you are happy in... Every place has it's good and bad. As for "Very high cost of living-" As compared to where I came from... this isn't too bad. And as for "Highest property taxes-" I do believe NY is much higher. The commuting is NOTHING as compared to the LA/OC freeways in So CA. There seems to be quite a bit of access to many lakes out here. And so many to choose from. I will give you that food costs are out of line. Yep... higher than where I came from... Especially the fruit... but much tastier for some reason. The "Noise pollution-" You can get that pretty much in any city. Where I am on the Plateau is pretty quiet.

So I guess it all depends on how one looks at it. Last year on the 4th and 5th it was beautiful. And after all the heat and sun we have had. I Welcomed the overcast and rain this morning!!! It was wonderful! Last week it was so HOT with no AC in our house. So this is great! And most places I have seen don't have AC in the homes.

This is a great place to live...but yes you must be able to deal with weeks and weeks of grey skies in the winter. It is so green up here because of the rain. The less rain, the less green. And when it is sunny and warm, get outside and take advantage. However you can't wait for a sunny day to function outdoors. When I first moved here I was waiting for the rain to stop because I had to go get groceries... where I came from, no one went to the market in the rain. I realized after a few days...we would starve if I waited. Like anyplace it has its good and its bad. Guess it just depends on what you are looking for.

have you choosen a new location yet?
