Not sure why is he isn't more popular than he in Seattle. He's certainly not disliked. Maybe it's the reasons suggested earlier, or his slightly aloof persona.

But if you include populous Japan, where he has long had Michael Jordan-type status, Ichiro is certainly among the most popular baseball players in the world.

Most of the names mentioned in this thread were not only great players, but great contributors to the local community, making them popular away from the sport. I can think of nothing Ichiro does in the community.

So, in that vein, I'm officially throwing Jamie Moyer into the mix.
He had a stint here of what? 10 years? And was effective with his trickery rather than speed. He's still pitching, and he's almost 50.
Though he's been gone from Seattle for 4 years, the Moyer Foundation is still going strong.
