Haha, well Seattle's cost of living is higher than the average city in the US, not overwhelmingly higher but I've read the biggest factor is housing, so that's why police officers make so much here. The good thing about Washington is there isn't any state income tax, so that saves you a good amount of money.

Police offers in the Bay Area START in the mid 80's to mid 90's. After a few years they're making some serious bank.

Tough job though.
