So i am interested in relocating from PA to Washington,

I really would like to live somewhere that is not really expensive but close to seattle (30 minute commute tops) i have a young child so good schools are important. Also interested in an area that has jobs to offer that pay decent. i want to know all the pros and cons as well as different areas close to seattle that i can look into.. i would say that i enjoy the outdoors, and the rain does not bother me one bit.. please if anyone has some information i would really appreciate it..

As others will ask, you need to define "not really expensive". And, if you want to be within a 30 minute commute of Seattle, you probably want to live in Seattle. If you have a graduate degree in computer science, there are many jobs that offer "decent" pay.

Consider Tacoma, Everett, Olympia, or Bellingham, and finding work in the area. Anything within a half-hour of Downtown Seattle is going to be expensive.

Everett apartments ( decent ones) are running $1300 and up. Everett is not cheap anymore. And the nicer apartments in Everett are running over 1600 bucks.

Plus it's a total dump, drugs and crime everywhere, schools are junk, and it can average 2hrs in traffic each way to Seattle and about an hour without.

Alot of us know I got TOTALLY priced out of that dump of a town of Everett . Someone scolded me about saying that but I stand by it . I was only there to be close to husbands job . Even if I could, there was no WAY I was spending 1800 on a 2-1 on Casino. Everett is roughly 20 miles to Seattle and this morning is running at 74 minutes which is normal at 6:39 am , Tacoma where I live now is 33 miles currently running 1 hour and 15 minutes , again - normal . For a true 30 minute commute I have no clue what that might cost and thats with taking the bus . You would still have to have some real cash to live that close .

I lived in Bothell....downtown, Bellevue, Tacoma, and Everett....and I think Tacoma sucks mostly. I actually like Everett...and find it to be a pretty clean blue collar, mostly locals, kind of town. The only real slightly rough patch is Casino Rd...and that is one road. I guess some folks never been to Tacoma, or to the south Bronx, or Comptom maybe. I never understood the hate on Everett...I think Everett is great. Clean, down to earth (used to be, at least), blue collar, by the water, surrounded by great nature, etc. Problem I see with Everett, is that it is turning into the same bohemian, snooty, elitist, horribly expensive, over priced, yuppie haven the rest of Seattle has already become. Seattle is now only for the rich, high end elitists, and sadly, they have been migrating up to Everett as well, over time.

My daughter lives in Everett in a nice middle class neighborhood not far from downtown. She works in downtown Seattle and takes the train which is a few blocks from her house. Thankful for this option since traffic is such an issue.

What type of job are you looking for? If you are looking for a job that can be found in a suburb you might be able to meet all of your requirements. If not it will be difficult to find an affordable place with good schools that close to Seattle.

Everett is changing and you can find houses with a water view for under $900K.

True; when someone says they want to live 30 minutes from Seattle, that's basically Seattle.
