Default Thoughts on Auburn

What info could one provide on Auburn, in particular the school system, safety, family friendliness, etc. Two kids ages 12 and 15, both very good students that I'm looking for the right atmosphere for them to continue to excel.

Looking for alternatives to Federal Way where I will be working. Many thanks to you all!

Like you, I will also be working in Federal Way. I'm not yet an Auburn resident, but I will say that we bought our new house in Lakeland because of the family-friendly neighborhood and the school system. But there are differences between different areas. Some parts of Auburn, like the rest of the south end (and anywhere else, I suppose) have more issues than others.

We like it up on the hill. Lake Tapps is nearby and there is a great park with sports courts and a skateboard area. Shopping and dining are within walking distance and we're not far from movies, Wild Waves in the summer or Crystal Mountain in the winter, so the kids will have plenty of activities. The high school (Auburn Riverside) is within walking/biking distance (although there is a big hill to come back up).

It's a great area for families in the south end.

We're living in an apartment on Queen Anne while the house is finished and I was telling a resident where we were going to be living, and she said she has family there, we'd really like it. I get that a lot.

We lived in downtown Auburn and we loved it. Now we live in Kent and "am not so much lovin' it" although the Kent Commons is a very nice place to shop and eat and see a movie.
Kent supposedly has better schools, but my two youngest liked Rainier MS and wanted to go to Auburn Mountainview. So like the other poster has mentioned Auburn in the right areas is very nice with a small town feel, yet very close to so many things to do.
I've lived in Downtown Seattle, Vashon Island, Renton, West Seattle, Auburn and Kent. I liked Auburn the best! However, I love Richland and hope to move back home someday cause the West Side is too crowded for my taste.
