The land of "Big Hair" gets a new place to over pay. All seriousness aside, I love the produce and the seafood. Superb quality.

Whole Foods will never match the good old Pike Place Market (formerly The Farmer's Market) -not in a million years.
We got access to two Whole Foods AND The Pike Place Market. We went to Whole Food a couple of times to see what they were like, -but not any more. Madison Market and Trader Joes are near each other on Madison, -Trader Joes can't match Madison Market either. Seems local markets and producers alway outdo the chain stores.

I have grown to like a few of the PCCs a lot more than Whole Foods.

FYI -- the new Haggen (formerly Top Food) in Bellevue is also excellent in case you are in the neighborhood.

When was the Pike Place Market called "The Farmer's Market"?

Don't recall that derivation. It's certainly referred to as "The Market" by many. It was once known as Produce Row and as The Lots.

As to Whole foods, no they can't match The Pike Place Market. However, their produce quality and meat and seafood departments, while expensive, are top notch.

Better quality than any other chain in Seattle in my opinion. A very close 2nd place is The Central Market.

I don't know why people glorify Pike Place Market so much. There isn't anything interesting about it nor it is of "high" quality.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong if you tried. Never mind the artisan goods sold there.

The seafood, produce and flowers are spectacular, fresh and primarily local. Try finding anything remotely close anywhere on the west coast to the flowers you can buy at the market for 5.00.

Good luck.

well sorry to have an opinion but I will stick to mine. Nothing interesting except for the occasional artsy stuff.

Never mind that the Pike Place Market is one of the oldest continuously operating, and most historically authentic public markets in the country.

Never mind that many call it the soul of the city...
