I just moved to Bellevue and am having a tough time getting a job. I am looking for something in the event planning/trade show industry. I have posted my resume on numerous job sites and applied for tons of jobs but no luck so far. I know that having or making contacts is usually a better "in" than just blindly applying so I thought I would give this a try. If anyone could point me in a better direction than what I've been doing, the help would be appreciated.

Event planning and trade shows...Know nothing about the industry, but seems to me it's probably been beaten down pretty bad by the economic collapse.

Check with Microsoft's vendors. MSFT is always putting on a show or booth somewhere, there's gotta be need for a pretty extensive list of planners with those. I know this is kind of an obvious statement, but it's amazing how often the obvious gets overlooked (and MSFT doesn't post listings on job boards). I think Excell Compucommi handles most of MSFT's events.
