Um, wrong. Queen Anne has thousands of apartments and many are affordable. It's easier to find a cheap apartment in Queen Anne than in Ballard or Capitol Hill. It's a Seattle myth that everyone on Queen Anne is rich
I didn't say "rich," I said upper middle class. I should know because I live in one off those apartments. I conducted an apartment search in Queen Anne over the summer. The cheapest I could find was $810 a month for a 1 bedroom. It's typical to find a 1 bdrm in Queen Anne for $1,050. Maybe that's cheap to you, but a typical West Seattle apartment is closer to $650/month so there is a difference. For someone who is struggling or just starting out, there is nothing cheap about Queen Anne. Even food at the grocery stores costs more. Besides, I would discourage a young single woman from moving into a basement apartment due to safety concerns, not to mention that there is not a whole lot of light in the northwest anyway.

Don't get me wrong. I like the neighborhood a lot, but have no illusions. You get what you pay for in Seattle.

Can I do this in Tacoma?
Out of curiousity, I checked out some rentals at hotpads and found some surprisingly affordable studios and one bedrooms on Queen Anne Blvd, some that might even have a view and could be affordable for one person, even a young person with a small income. Of course my idea of affordable may be different than yours.

mod cut: specific listing removed

There more examples at hotpads. I do think as a young person, you would find Queen Anne a nice place to live.

Capitol Hill would be your best bet. Transportation, close to downtown, parks,
shopping, medical...it's all good. Lots of affordable housing there.

I love Queen Anne. I got "hooked up" moving in with a best friend of a friend, but it's a great neighborhood.

Woe thanks!! I certainly did not want anyone to go through all of that trouble but I am glad to see there are some properties there that are affordable. I've read that Capitol Hill can have some loud areas is that true? That is mainly why I did not consider it.

Around Pike and Pine corridor... but if you head more towards Eastern Capitol Hill (closer to Madison Valley) then it's pretty much lull.

Queen Anne is very expensive. However, it is very nice. So you get what you pay being that it's a great neighborhood. West Seattle is far more affordable but keep in mind that Queen Anne is a better neighborhood so that is why it cost more. Like anywhere, you always get what you pay for. Things tend to cost what they cost for a reason. Reality always speaks when it comes to money.
