I'm trying to get a better idea of what the Woodinville schools are like - other than what I can learn from the Greatschools website and others. Are they very competitive? Is there lots of pressure to take 16 AP classes ? At some of our local high schools, there's a huge gap between the kids. You're either really at the top of your game or at the bottom of the barrel. There's not much in between.

Does anybody have an idea what it would be like for a student who likes to do his own thing? I know high school is typically full of cliques, but some schools seem to be more accepting than others.

Any advice on how we could get a better feel for some of the area high schools? I don't think the statistics necessarily tell the whole story. We don't want a high pressure "we're all going Ivy League" environment, but still want diverse course offerings and to be in a place where everyone gets encouraged to succeed.

Any advice you've got is greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Woodinville is affluent and the school system is very good. Mine are not old enough to be in high school but the middle school caters to their accomplishment in various subjects such as math and English. When you say eccentric, that can mean anything, and while everyone is very accepting, if eccentric means disrupting the class, etc. I know the middle school would not be on board with that. Woodinville High has a good reputation for acceptance to UW.

That would be no problem at all and I believe Woodinville would be great for that
