We will be in Seattle for 1 day next week with our 2 boys (7 and 10). We are staying in Westin Hotel. Our plans is Pike Market and Science Fiction Museum. What family/budget friendly food options is in the area - restorants and grocery stores?

Not really any grocery stores...why grocery shop when you can have a dinner out if you are in town one night? There are little corner stores scattered in the area for sundries. There are no chains like Applebee's or Chili's (thank goodness) in downtown. There is a food court in Westlake Mall close to the Westin; that would be your best bet if your kids are McNugget Kids. There are more good restaurants in the area than I could post, and I would suggest using Yelp to find one that suits your particular taste buds that evening. Enjoy your visit.

There is a Kress IGA supermarket at 2nd & Pike, about 4 blocks from the Westin. And of course Pike Place Market has a lot of food as well. There are a number of places to eat at the Market. The food choices at Seattle Center are more limited, but there are tourist-friendly places to eat in the Center House. If you take the monorail to Seattle Center from downtown you'll go right through the Westlake Mall food court.

Just don't eat at the Space Needle. The price they charge for their food (which aren't even good) is because you're paying more for the view.

I second the Market for food in the area there. Veggies, meats, international, and all sorts of goodies are there. Heck there's even a British crumpets and pie store there (not that it's any good, in my opinion, but it's there).

There is a QFC (or is it a PCC?) in lower Queen Anne.

That crumpet joint is closed for renovations. But yeah, there are a TON of good cheap eats near the market. That Russian meat pie joint is awesome, the French bakery, the gyro joint on 1st, Etta's Seafood. There's a lot to like within about 3 blocks of the market. I mean really, why would anyone travel to another city and then go to a grocery store and buy frozen pizzas?

Oh man! Now I have to buy Trader Joe's frozen crumpets.

Did you mean La Patissiere? That place is pretty good (I do like conversing with the baristas there, sometimes makes for good eye candy when waiting for an espresso to go with my cookies). There's a few French or French themed places. Do explore that nook beside the famous fish market that has an awesome view across the inlet to West Seattle.

And let's not forget Beecher's mac 'n cheese. They make the cheese right there, so it's worth at least a look, even if you don't like cheese, and they typically have samples of the curds.

... curses my sickness! I would go right now! ...

I found the Science Fiction Museum a little disappointing. I much prefer the Aquarium or Science centre. The Klondike Gold Rush museum near Pioneer Square is interesting and best of all - free. You can take a free bus down there from the Westlake center having come back from the Needle on the monorail. But just walking there is fun too.

I find Pike Market too busy for me and my gaggle of children and the famous pig got run over too. Plus there are lots of renovations going on, so its a bit of a mess at the moment.
