Hey, I'm taking a summer internship in Marysville, WA and am looking for a place to live in the University District of Seattle. I was wondering if anyone had an estimate of how long it would take to commute from University District to Marysville using mass transit. I'm from New York and have no idea how the system works in Seattle.

Also, if anyone has other recommendations for alternatives to mass transit, please let me know. Thanks!

Uh, wow... in this case, it'd be better to live either in or a lot closer to Marysville. Very limited schedule, serves more for the people going TO Seattle/UW (which may not even be available during the summer, always double-check later). Here is link to direct:

You'd have to take the bus into Seattle DT, then take the bus up north to Marysville. It supposed to be an hour and a half (but much much longer with traffic). The bus has a limited schedule as well.

It'd be easier to drive up north than taking mass transit. Or you could look to living in Everett which be the big town closest to Marysville (but it definitely doesn't compare to living the U-District)-- Everett would provide more buses going to DT and to Marysville.

Make sure to use the trip planner feature, it would give you an idea: Community Transit

Community Transit is cutting their service hours back by 20% due to budget problems so you probably don't want to rely on bus service. It'll be a LOT cheaper for you to live near your internship.

Use this. Trip Planning

I know you can catch the 511 that goes from downtown Seattle to Everett at 45th and I-5 (at the highway on-ramp/off-ramp - walkable from much of the U District). Like others stated that might not be the easiest commute, but the information you need to determine if it would work for you may be found there.

There may be other buses that go from the University District to Everett, as well.

Actually it's the 510 that goes to Everett (the 511 only goes as far north as the Ash Way P&R).

There is a route 821 that does run between Marysville and the U-District, but it has very limited hours (only during the peak period).

From what I can tell, your best bet if you want to go by bus is to take a bus (201 or 202) from Marysville to either Everett Station (and catch the 510 there) or Lynnwood Transit Center (and catch the 511), then get off at 45th and take the 44.

Hopes this helps.

Thanks for all the replies. I checked on the Comm Trans Trip Planner, apparently I can take the 510 to Everett Station and then catch a bus going into Marysville, it seems like the commute will take about an hour each way. Considering that that's my normal commute in New York, I think I can deal with that. Thanks again!
