Smile Places to eat, things to do

You should definitely eat at Matt's in the Market while you're in Seattle! It's a can't miss restaurant. Low-key, great fresh seafood, and did I mention fantastic food?

Also, you might want to consider going on a food tour. This company called Savor Seattle Food Tours does a nice 2-hour walking food tour through Pike Place Market. Savor Seattle Food Tours :: Welcome!.

Pike Place usually gets good ratings with visitors -- not just for the shops but for the atmosphere; street musicians, etc, around it. Another cool thing for visitors to do is take the ferry across the sound -- I know, it sounds kind of corny (and is usually no big deal to locals), but you get to see a lot.

If you're just looking for a place to go in the city -- aside from the Space Needle, Columbia Tower club is a relatively upscale bar/restaurant that has a really cool view of the city as well.

As far as scenery, if you can't see the mountains from where you're staying and have a rental car, hit I-5 north or south and you'll get to see some of the Northwest's beauty in either direction.

THnx - lots of great ideas. We will actually have our car - as that is our starting point for a cross-country drive. By the way - what is the typical weather like during the first couple of weeks in November?

It varies a little, but you should be here during some of the rainy season -- in which case, you'll have less visibility.

Cross country? Sounds pretty exciting. You'll get to see our mountain ranges one way or the other, then.

If Seattle's your starting point, in addition to the other local sites, try to catch some seafood (if you like that) while you're up here -- you'll be glad you did once you trek inland. I have never heard anyone complain about The Oceanaire Seafood Room downtown, but you'll have a wide selection of good places regardless.
