Two similar, yet somehow different scenes.

A common pro-Seattle argument is that there is more variety and the nightlife is more sophisticated. This argument claims Portland bars are more one-dimensional.

A common pro-Portland argument is that the bars are more fun, laid-back and have more character, and that there are more bars spread out across the city (i.e. there's a bar on every block in Portland, while Seattle has concentrated bar districts).

Do you think there's any truth to these points? What have your experiences been? Which do you think has better nightlife?

My experience has been that Portland shuts down by midnight. There's not even a discussion as to which has the better nightlife.

Portland definitely has the most strip clubs, but if you are not into that, there's really no comparison. On the other hand, Seattle clubs do seem to have more problems at closing time.

I can't take the poll because I have had great times in bars in both cities. Portland did vote one of their local bartenders for mayor at one time. Seattle has never done that.
