Default Where to live in the Seattle area

I currently live in Denton, TX and am looking to move to the Greater Seattle area. I hope some of you could help me with some info on where to live in the Greater Seattle area. Let me give you guys some more information.

I am focusing on living north/northeast of Seattle. I do not have a job yet, but the companies that I am talking to are in Kirkland going up north towards Everett.
Reading other threads and doing some research online, it looks like the worst is going southbound towards Seattle. It looked like Everett-Seattle is a 45min commute while the other way around looks like 30min. Is this correct?

I am looking for one bedroom or two bedroom - one bath apartment for around $900-$1000, pet friendly, no history of car break-ins or notorious 'hangouts'. Other than that I do not really car that much. Don't really mind noise (up to a certain degree), I am 'only' 27 myself and will not always be that quiet myself. Looking for a commute no more then 30min if possible.
In neighborhood of local bars and restaurants (not too many chain restaurants like a chili's or whatever).

If you guys need more info to make a better judgement on where I should look for an apartment let me know! I appreciate all of you who will take some time out of your busy day

The odds of finding a place that has no history of car breaks in are pretty nil-- given that while WA may be low on violent crime, they're pretty high on car break ins (I believe I saw an article that says we're in the top 15 in the nation). That said, not everyone has experienced one.

Everett/Seattle traffic is a bit tricky-- morning, it's a little better to be going north, evening rush hour both ways suck. I do recommend that you refer to Live Traffic Reports, Traffic Maps, Traffic Alerts - Local Road Conditions Information & News - BeatTheTraffic.com: The Right Traffic at the Right Time at the time you'd be traveling to gauge the times. It's very possible that the commute b/w the two be close to 1 hr.

Everett would provide what you're looking for, they have a nifty little bar scene. But if you're looking for less chains, better to live closer to DT Seattle. The Eastside is too pricey for you (you'd find only a handful in your budget range) and too mellow, being a family area (though the Kirkland DT and Bellevue DT do have some nightlife).

If your company hasn't already moved to Everett and you don't know when, then I'd say Shoreline/Bothell area would be a good in between. to check out.

If you're going to be working on the east side, then you probably want to live in the east side too. Far less traffic to worry about.

Downtown Kirkland is pretty cool, so is downtown Bellevue. I'd check out those places first.

Default Go for Seattle

Seattle is the center of the action. Live near downtown and commute to the suburbs. The reverse commute is smooth.

I appreciate the info!

I was looking at apartments in the Bothel/Lynnwood area. Had been thinking of looking at apartments in Edmonds too.

You probably don't know, but I am going to ask you any way. Do you know of some nice apartment complexes and their reputations in those areas? I have been cross checking with apartmentratings.com, but I can never tell if I need to take those reviews of people serious. Is it an employee who's writing stuff, is it just a bitter person that got kicked out because they weren't good tenants....

About the car breakins... It wasn't a make it or break thing, but my girlfriends car got broken into at our current apartment complex and they stole her stereo, amp and sub... She won't be moving with me and my truck doesn't have all that fancy stuff. So I am not to worried about it anyways...

It's easy enough to screen those out. Toss the top reviews and the worst reviews, and read what's in between. Yes, I know from personal experience that the employees do write some of the top reviews, and I also believe that often the lowest raters were kicked out for good reasons.

By the way, if you've gotten trouble for your noisy ways, be aware that it's not the volume of the music you play but the amount of bass that reaches through the walls and drives people nuts. Lower the bass and no one will notice.

I understand of tossing out both top and worst reviews, but every complex ends up being mediocre... I was hoping that somebody on this forum would have some first hand experience or know someone that has lived in an apartment somewhere in the bothel/lynnwood/edmonds area.
