Hey guys,

I was going through my movie collection and picked Singles. I haven't seen it in a couple years, but remembered watching it so many times when I was younger. Pearl Jam was my favorite band growing up, and I had a poster of the Seattle space needle in my room. My favorite movie was Ten Things I Hate About you - for the mere fact of being in Seattle (and it was a good movie too).

To tell you the truth I blame this movie for my fascination with the Emerald City. I got the chance to go there last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I only spent 2 days there, and had limited time to explore (business trip). However, I have to ask...does this movie do the city justice? I understand it is about 20 years old now (goodness! I saw the movie for the first time in 97.) I still consider moving there, and watching this movie brings back awesome memories.

You Seattle natives love your city - this I know. Do you consider Singles to be the best movie taken place in the city?

I'm guessing that you just drank way too much Starbucks coffee on your break?

No. But the soundtrack was awesome.

Default For the time

It did a decent job of capturing the experience of a certain age group in a certain type of existence. But as with any big city, there isn't a 2-hour movie that is going to capture everything.

I was in college here from 90-94, so right during the massive music & cultural boom of the city. I've never experienced anything like it before or since - it was bizarre to be going to shows and seeing bands like AIC or Soundgarden and suddenly see them being internationally famous.

It was also completely awesome. The backlash was severe and probably somewhat deserved, but the truth is that there is still a pretty incredible arts, music, & food scene here that owes a lot to that particular period.

The movie "Singles" no longer reflects this area in any way (except perhaps the rain). The 90's are long gone, and Seattle now feels a lot more mainstream, corporate, expensive, and crowded.

Yeah, but the OP lives in Arlington/DC, and compared to that area, Seattle is still a "nirvana" of hipness.

I liked Singles a lot.
But if there were a category for worst movie filmed in Seattle, Harry and the Hendersons would be a nominee:

Singles was a great movie. That movie almost led me to Seattle.

Then Kurt Cobain died. I figured Portlanders would be less bummed about about that.
