Let me first say, I was not trying to imply that this board/forum be nothing but a "Chamber of Commerce" piece that shows only Seattle's good side. I, too, appreciate both sides and am very interested in knowing both the good and the bad.
What I was trying to get across is for those people who have left Seattle and have found "their paradise" in another location, why come back to this board if you have left Seattle?
I, for one, am from Oklahoma. However, I now live in San Diego. I don't go to the Oklahoma board and voice my opinion there because I don't live there anymore.
I agree, everyone is entitled to their opinion and that's what is great about this forum. I just wondered why those who have left the area because they didn't like Seattle, come back to post on this forum.
Maybe I should have started a different thread for my post. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. It was merely a question out of curiosity.

There is a very good reason...

I post on Washington because I have lived here for quite a while and feel I can help people trying to make an informed decision. I have also lived in several other states and offer my opinions, based on my knowledge and experiences, when I feel they can be useful to others.
Had I had a computer way back when--and the benefit of this board--I would not have moved to Washington. I think people who are thinking of moving visit this site to hear both pros and cons to help them make good decisions about where to live. That's what this board is for, and I do my best to remember that when I post.
I hope that answers your question.

Thank you. That does give me a better insight. This board is a wonderful tool for people who are in the process of moving to a different area that they have never been before.

I don't know if you were referring to people like me or not, seahawksweetie. Yes, I've been accused of posting "bashing-type" posts here. In fact, we had quite a shouting match over it back around the beginning of the year ...a lot of name calling and personal attacks going on. I actually was asked by a member who still posts on this forum to not post in the Washington forum if I had nothing good to say. He, like you, evidently didn't appreciate my expressing how I couldn't take the weather. However, as I told him, I love many things about the Seattle area. After all, it's where I was born, raised, and where I spend the majority of my life. But all he was focusing on was my so-called bashing of the region's climate.
I feel I have many useful things to add to this forum. Just because I moved away, doesn't mean that every single one of my posts is bashing in some way. I'm still connected to this area ...in fact, I'm here right now. However, there are a lot of things I don't like about the area and I'm not shy to mention them. I don't think that it should offend you. I want to present a balanced view. I want folks to know why "I" moved away. It may be helpful to them to get a better picture if they hear negatives things from a native-born and raised person from the Seattle area.
My views and opinions will differ from others but that's the point of this site. Everybody should sort out what they think is valuable and discard what they don't think is true or may be an exaggeration.
Again, I want to express that each post will contain the person's opinion and no matter how confident they may sound that they absolutely know that what they are saying is correct, it still is just their OPINION. Each person has to determine what they are reading is worth merit.
Thanks.

Scirocco-
No, I wasn't necessarily referring to you. I really wasn't referring to any one particular person. I just seemed to notice many different posts from people who no longer live in the Seattle area posting and I wondered what their motivation was to do so.
I tend to find your posts very insightful actually. I respect both the good and bad opinions of the area. That is what makes this board so great.
Thanks

Me, my opinion (as most are quick to point out is valid to only..me)
I agree this is an awesome tool for people that are considering moving to Seattle..or anywhere. People share their OPINIONS on many tangible areas of concern. Traffic, Jobs, Weather, Housing, etc. Those are all documentable facts that can be analyzed by the reader to see how they will or will not fit into their own life and their reasons for even searching for information.
So I agree that this forum should represent the positives and negetives to a city, so that readers can make their own assumptions about relocation. BUT when posters start "bashing" a city because they cannot make friends...I question the value. I'm not questioning that they may truly feel this way and are unhappy, but then to claim a city as the reason for your isolation??? It becomes a very personal and subjective reality, maybe the poster has bad hygiene, potty mouth, no social skills...or too many social skills? I dont know...
Tell me that the sales tax is xxxx% or that housing prices in a certain neighborhood should be examined....Yes!! facts!!!
Many (sorry...some) people on this forum are posting just to vent. They moved here because of x-y or the wrong reason...and they want everyone to know they are mad as hell about it. It seems also, that these posters follow that statement with.."Everyone here is xxxx, I cant stand all these xxxx people...I'm moving back to my home town, where I came came from!!! Everyone there is SO Much more xxxxxx!!!
Send a post card!!!

Seahawksweetie....funny you should mention Oklahoma...lived there for 3 years...DID NOT like it at all...but met lots of people who love it there. So, it goes to show you that what might be "one man's treasure is another man's trash" or however that goes. I think that the only way a person can really know if a place is suitable for them is to actually live there and experience it. I thought I would really like OK but I didn't in the worst way. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to stay for awhile...so I say make the best of it...or else be miserable. I lived in South FL for a long time and I loved it!!! But I'm not sure I would love it if I moved back there now. Places change, people change...and everybody has an opinion...whether you agree with it or not. Too bad we don't all have a crystal ball to let us know before we make the move....kind of scary but also exciting.

samsmom-
Regarding OK, I grew up there and loved it, but I would not go back there. It just doesn't fit me or my family, other than the college sports part of it, but that's a whole other story.
Right now I'm ready to head to Seattle, with the cool weather, rain, and clouds. That I'm definitely looking forward to.
You're right places and people change. What works for one person in one stage of their life may not fit them later on.

Sun lamp would be a good idea for the Vit D defficiency.
Won't cure the weather though.
How do the locals seem to beat the gray? STARBUCKS!!! LOL
It got to me the first year there, but went better after that. You just gotta bundle up and go out! You get used to the weather and actually enjoy it after a while.
