My 1st time to Seattle. I am having the hardest time finding hotels in the area. Too expensive, barely anything is available. I also don't have a car at the moment so I'm limited to the airport.

Yesterday, I spent from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm looking for hotels in downtown area and found nothing. I ended up booking a Hilton in Bellevue for $147 with taxes, only to cancel a few minutes later because I couldn't get across the bridge in a taxi during Friday rush hour.

I called hostels, B&Bs and they were full. Only thing available were $200 and $300 a night hotels which I wasn't about to do.

Finally I had a taxi driver tell me about Sutton Suites near the airport. Got there and was royally disgusted. I stayed because I had nowhere else to go.

I ended up just paying full price at the Mariott for $109 for today. With priceline and hotwire I rarely EVER pay full price for a hotel but I had no choice. I was bidding upwards of $100 bucks yesterday and didn't get anything in downtown because everything was booked. It was actually a steal because the hotel that I booked was full so it switched me to a better one across the street.

This reminds me of the time I went to visit my boyfriend in Miami back in 2005 and couldn't find anything almost thought we'd end up sleeping on the street. Finally found a broken down dive on South Beach after walking for hours.

I never have this problem in the interior cities. I've gotten so used to booking hotels the DAY I arrive in town, for me to get here and can't find anything puts a Seattle damper on my trip

I know this isn't limited to Seattle, but I don't like when cities put their airports too far from downtown Take places like San Antonio, Tampa, Boston...their airports are conveniently located to downtown. But Denver, Seattle, even DFW airport in Dallas are so dog on far from town and when you stay near the airport nobody wants to freaking come see you It's Saturday I should have a booty call lined up

It's called a reservation. Works pretty well.

You are smack middle in the highest part of tourist season. Of course everything is booked. Kind of stupid to get pissed off "at the city" because you chose not to research and plan ahead.

Tourist season, cruise ships, Bite of Seattle and other events, lots of construction going on. Oh, and the tourists that came for a vacation because we lied and told them that July and August were sunny and dry.

Seriously, coming to Seattle in July or August you really need a reservation months ahead of time. They are not going to build more hotels, because the
other 9-10 months they are pretty empty.

$109 for the Marriott downtown is a STEAL. Especially in mid July.

I hear ya. A possible solution for the future is Hotwire downtown Bellevue and take a bus from the Bellevue transit center to downtown Seattle; use the Metro Trip Planner to find which bus/platform.

I got a great price with Hotel Deca in U District when I came to visit Seattle in April 2010. Was very pleased with that hotel. But I agree that Seattle hotel offerings and prices are bad in comparison to most other large cities.

Just stay at one of the hotels by the airport and take the light rail back and forth from downtown. It runs 20 hrs a day.
