I think the term originated in Seattle, honestly... when we moved to MA in the late 90's, I referred to it as "butt rock" and no one knew what I was talking about; I'd heard it used in Seattle since the early 90's... it was even used on commercials on 107.7 during the Nirvana years ("Friends don't let friends listen to buttrock!") My circle of friends started using it, and then by the time I moved out to CA around '02, you heard it in Boston on occasion. In CA, a few people used it, but it was mostly referred to as "hair metal." I now hear it often enough that it seems it's entered the greater American lexicon

Is there much call for open mic/sit-in blues jams, or cover band gigs? If I move to the area, I'm not going to be able to take it for long without a band or some regular jams...
