I was raised in Seattle, and can tell you, "Californian" is a catch-all term for "undesirable non-native." It includes people from all over the US... California's general social climate in areas like LA and OC tends to be (somewhat infamously) more outgoing than WA's, so it doesn't necessarily follow logic that an influx of Californians would make the place less sociable.

I also find that blaming Californians is a cop out. I know lots of folks from CA that have assimilated into the Seattle lifestyle without a hitch. In fact almost everyone I know from CA is that way.

I know lots of Californians that have happily moved here too. We have many companies here such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Salesforce, etc. that trade employees between here and CA all the time and the west coast mindset is much the same.

California has indeed become a catch-all term.....for a lot of places. Scanning the numerous CD forums, and looking at the number of things being blamed on Californians, and then applying a super secret statistical calculation, I figure that approximately 800 million people have moved from CA to other cities and states and ruined them. My super secret statistical calculation has a margin of error of +/- 799 million.

Heck, I think the majority of people exiting CA aren't even native to CA. I'll be one of them when/if I move up to Seattle.

No, Seattle loves to bicker. It is part of the culture. Seattle is one of the youngest growing cities in the U.S. Like any family, bickering at this stage is completely natural.

Seattle today is almost wholly a city of immigrants from other regions of the country, so I'm not sure how the city itself or region or natives get blamed for the "Seattle Freeze".

If you've got to blame someone blame your average fellow American (see map below, click on King County, and follow the 'immigrated from' lines all over the country).

Funny post, but:

American Migration [Interactive Map] - Forbes

This is an interesting map. Start clicking on Bay Area and Socal counties, follow the red "emigrated to" lines, and you will find areas where people complain about Californians. It isn't like the people in places like WA/OR/ID/CO haven't faced a flood of Cali immigrants, so no surprise those are the places complaining the most.

Thanks for giving the link to the county maps. I decided to check the county I live in, which is Cobb County, GA, a part of metro Atlanta. I checked the counties in which there is migration between Cobb County and the state of Washington. With the exception of Pierce County, more people are moving away from Cobb County to the Seattle area than from the Seattle area to Cobb County. Barely anyone moved from Snohomish County(where I used to live) to Cobb County. However, 23 people migrated from Cobb County to Snohomish County. 63 people moved from King County to Cobb County. 96 people moved from Cobb County to King County. Fulton County and the Seattle-Tacoma counties showed this date. More people are moving into the Seattle area from Fulton County than from the Seattle area to Fulton County. This might explain the lack of Mariners fans in Atlanta and the fact that I always try to speak to someone who has a Washington state license plate.

This thread is now 25 pages long. Couldn't it have been answered on the first page just by saying, "Yes, Seattle sucks for some people, but it's awesome for others"?

I guess it would sort of defeat the purpose of starting a thread at all.
