Beautiful day here, too - a "balmy" 44 degrees.

I have to admit I'm glad to see a break in the rain - I really got hit pretty hard there for a couple of days.

I think I already feel the days getting longer.

Although I enjoy the variations in day length throughout the year, I must say that I am glad we have passed the shortest day and that they are slowly lengthening once again.

I always look forward to that shortest day of the year because it's like "hump day" - just knowing that the following day is going to be a tiny bit longer in daylight is always a huge psychological boost for my winter blahs.

It makes me happy.

In Chicago's defense, it probably isn't like that every single day during winter.

Second Winter here and no problems so far with the short days. It's just in my DNA I think (from the UK) so my body just treats it as 'normal' for this time of year, ha. The one surprising result of them is that I always think it's later than it is and then I have more time to do stuff!

It also only lasts 2-3 months and then starts warming up again. Not like some places' seasons that seem to last 8-9 months...

it's more like 5 months in worse years (November-March). Also Seattle's gloomy season is not even close to 9 months. People like to exaggerate a lot to make a point.

I got up about a half hour ago and checked the temperature - almost forty degrees! Oh, my!

Not as sunny, blue skies as yesterday - kind of high clouds mostly.

I have to admit, if we can keep this up through January, I will breathe a hefty sigh of relief. I know - the pooh can still hit the fan in February but it's a lot less likely to be severe or to last as long. I have gotten snow here in April.

I looked at the White Pass web site yesterday and I do feel sorry for the resorts who are dependent on snow for their businesses to survive. On the web cam, I saw quite a few cars parked up there but wondered what everyone could be doing - it doesn't look like there's enough snow for skiing, at least the downhill kind (maybe cross country or snowboarding?). Maybe people just go up there to see the little bit of snow and then hang out in the lodge, drinking coffee nudges or something.

Been in Tennessee for the last week and I just got back to Seattle (and later, Bellingham) yesterday. For the first couple of days there it was 65-70 and rainy, then for the rest of the week it was 30-45 and totally sunny. While the colder temperatures were just fine to me, I HATED the sun. It's just relentless, blinding, and I couldn't stand it. I got into Bellingham late last night, and waking up to wet pavement and clouds this morning was the nicest thing I've experienced since I left. Like mrman78, maybe it's just in my genes.
