Silly question or not... Rainboots?
Happy New Year to all!
Hi, I'm doing quite a bit of shopping for warmer clothes for my family and I and I'm wondering if rainboots should be on our list of items. I have never owned a pair of rainboots in my life living in Las Vegas and just want us to be prepared for our move to Washington soon.
Sorry if this is a silly question and thanks !

Most people around here don't have rainboots or galoshes or completely rubber shoes. But a lot of people who spend a lot of time outdoors buy waterproof/water resistant shoes or spray them themselves with waterproofing spray, or buy shoes with rubber toes and soles( Duck boots?).

I have been here about 20 years now, and never used rain boots. I do have high rubber boots for mucking about in the woods or on my parents' acreage. I have an umbrella, but only have used it maybe 4 times.
The rain here is typically a light mist. When we do have heavy downpours the wind is too much for an umbrella anyway. A water resistant coat or windbreaker with hood is usually enough.

I agree with Hemlock, rain boots are not needed on streets and walks. But if you are walking in mud, some sort of rubber boot is a good idea. In a normal winter, the ground is so saturated the mud is deep. I've had mud encase my shoe so completely that I walked out of it with the shoe still deep in the mud. That's not everywhere, most wooded areas are covered with leaves and needles, but you can get surprised.

Just get a regular pair of boots and rub bacon grease into them real good.....they will be nearly waterproof and smell divine.

But you'll crave breakfast, even at 4:00 in the afternoon.

I never owned rainboots until they came in style recently. They make some cute varieties, so have fun buying what you like. It's more fashion than necessity, but they do come in handy.
However, this trend is for women. Can't say I've seen men in rainboots around here.
Otherwise, people just wear regular shoes like everywhere else, except when we wear socks with our sandals.
