My wife and I with our two kids moved out here from Idaho 6 months ago. I don't believe in the Seattle Freeze. We have had work parties one after another bowling, dinners,etc. We feel very welcomed coming out here.

as someone who lived in dc in the past, this was a great OP. Confirms everything that i've heard and expected from seattle and makes me want to move there even more. Hopefully I can start a thread like this one day.

Thanks for the replies, glad to hear that the post was useful. JayManne, to your questions, we are both in our mid-forties and work in the international non-profit world. We found that Seattle had the most opportunities for that kind of work on the West coast.

In our move, we drove across the US; three days to Colorado, then spent a few days in Steamboat Springs and Jackson Hole. On arriving, we stayed in a furnished apartment until we bought a house, then had our household effects shipped from the storage facility in Virginia. It was interesting to a live a few months without all of our accumulated junk, it have us a perspective on what we actually need to own.
