I have searched the forums, been reading for hours, but my times are different than most commuting during rush-hour. For about 1 year I need to commute from Seattle (live in Ballard) to downtown Tacoma. I would be leaving right before 6:30 am, and leaving again right before 3pm back home. Mapquest shows an hour drive each way, but I know that doesn't account for traffic. I'd take I-5 all the way. Is this time early enough before both rush hours to honestly make it in either direction in about an hour or a little over?

One hour seems about right with the traffic. However I would also explore alternative routes, being in sales I found myself driving all routes/combinations. Hope this helps.

Thanks, just curious, what are some other common routes to take? My husband commutes to his job but flies, so several times a month I have to get him to Sea-Tac and since I'm in Ballard right off 15th it's easier just to jump over to the 99 and take it there. I try to avoid I-5. So I considered taking the 509 to I-5 south.....simply because it's a pain even GETTING to
I-5 further north, not to mention 85th eastbound is closed for construction temporarily so everyone is cramming the 65th to I-5 route. Is there a way to divert from I-5, I haven't lived here long enough to no all of the short cuts
