There's a kind of mellow cool in the black culture in Seattle that seems genuine.
Give this town a new music scene with black artists and the rest of the country will notice.
Just make sure it lasts longer than Houston's did.

I wouldn't be surprised is a black man gets clowned for being from Seattle, especially in Atlanta. There are many people in Atlanta that have less than rave reviews for Seattle, so don't be surprised.

Part of why Seattle gets less than rave reviews among people in Atlanta has to do with it's perceived "rainy" reputation. While it does rain more consistently in Seattle, you will find more cloudy days in Seattle, and sunshine during the summer. It rains more in Atlanta and harder. I believe the rain repuation is not so much an urban myth but more a way to keep potential residents from moving to Seattle, thus trying to kepp Seattle from being overcrowded.
Another reason why Seattle gets clowned in Atlanta has to do with the regionalism in Georgia. There is this "the South is the best" and "Dirty South" mentality in many cases. It doesn't surprise me that blacks who were born in Seattle(with the exception of Jimi Hendrix) would get clowned as well.

Speaking of reviews I have to say this, Atlanta does not get rave reviews in my book. I'm black but I would pick Seattle over Atlanta anyday. Its simply not about black and white but what a city has to offer. Seattle offers so much more for me. I really could not ever imagine living in Atlanta. The only thing Atlanta has is cheaper housing. No thanks.

I agree. I live nearby in the suburbs unfortunately(because of school and cost of living). I don't want to live in the metro Atlanta area anymore. There isn't much to do in Atlanta. It's growing and the economy is good here, but I don't see it as a good place to live. I have surely been dissapointed by it. I moved to Atlanta(Marietta, actually), and after the Olympics, the place didn't look so nice anymore. It is not a walkable place. everyone seems to drive cars, and you can tell there is a "car" culture in Atlanta because in order to get anywhere in Atlanta, a car is a necessity. You can tell that in what cars are on the road. In the metro Atlanta area, you can find ratty cars on the road(and from my experience, most of the people I know who drive ratty cars aren't poor).
Apart from that, I would like to be in the places where Jimmy Hendrix and Quincy Jones went. I like jazz and R and B.

What's the problem? Young guys clowning you? What else is new.
Tighten your belt, straighten your back, pull up your bootstraps and go for your dreams.
Remember your past only as a milestone marker. So that when you make it, you can turn around and see your progress. Never use it as a crutch. God made you to be great.
All the Best To You.
P.S. Hug your Mom too and take care of her. I'm sure she did the best she could to give you a great life.

As for the getting clowned, I would expect it. Mention Seattle to alot of people in Atlanta and the first thing that pops into their head is rain.

I grew up in Marietta from age 2 to 11, just off of Johnson Ferry Road - I'm surprised at how many people up here I've met from the Atlanta metro area. I met a surprising amount at UW that spent time in and around Atlanta considering the distance, and found one that actually went to Elementary school with me in Marietta. I remember liking the area a lot as a kid, but it's hard to trust your own memory at such a young age, and my parents still let me know how much they hated it.

I lived on Delk Road. Now that area is just dead.
I liked the Pacific Northwest for its laid back nature.
