Default Check Out Downtown Bellevue Washington

Bellevue Washington is just east of Seattle across Lake Washington. Enjoy.

Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair

Hope you enjoyed the eastside.

Yeah I remember back when downtown Bellevue was pretty dead - back in the days when Bellevue Square's precursor containted little more than a deserted JC Penney's (or some such) and a half-dead restaurant (can't even remember what it was called) next to some big ol' tree. That was back in 1974 and the city that Bellevue's become looks nothing like it.

MAN! Has that place taken off!

Our neighbor has half a dozen large palm trees in the front yard. We're from Florida and certainly were not expecting to see palms flourishing right here in our own neighborhood in Poulsbo! They have a radiant water heating system underground around these palms to keep them alive in the winter. Where there's a will, there's a way!

Depending on the type of palm tree, you don't even need a radiant heating system for palms here in Seattle. There are a number hardy palm trees that do fine here with a bit of mulch to protect the roots and/or a protected spot. We have 3 windmill palms in our yard plus a hardy (though non-fruit producing) banana plant and they do just fine (even in pots). In spite of it's far north position, Seattle has very mild winters, with the average overnight temperature never dipping below freezing (the average January low bottoms out around 34/35 - with average highs around 45). While this is not exactly tropical, it's mild enough to support an extremely wide variety of different plants - including many that you would not expect at this latitude.

I think there is more construction in Bellevue than in downtown Seattle. How many new office buildings are in DT Seattle in the last 15 years? One?

Bellevue looks like suburban Dallas in some of those photos.

But Dallas has personality and is much more metropolitan. The eastside is really strange, generally people are very SMUG and into themselve. Little sense of community.

Have you been to dt Seattle lately? As far as projects under construction dt Seattle has more. I'm just glad to see Bellevue is finally starting to see the light as far as what a downtown should be.
