Default Where to find "cheap" housing near Microsoft?

What areas are near Microsoft?

Details:
* Looking for a rental (prefer house or townhouse) that would allow dogs.
* Affordable, but safe/nice area.
* Single male, 30's.

My friend was offered a job and needs an idea where to start looking for a rental.

craigslist.com

but I don't know how you define "cheap" - I am not sure there are any "cheap" rentals in Redmond.

Just curious why this was moved out of the Seattle forum, isn't Microsoft located in Seattle?

"Cheap" meaning whatever is "cheap" for the Settle area, but hopefully a decent area. Don't want to be pointed in the bad section of town.

Microsoft's corporate campus is actually in Redmond, east of Seattle (City Of Redmond Home). Microsoft's website says the campus is located 13 miles from Seattle.

Pretty much everything on the eastside near Microsoft is going to be pricey (Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Bothell), as those are desirable areas to live.

Your friend might want to check out Bothell, as there are quite a few rental communities there, and some accept dogs (likely subject to breed restrictions). I don't know how the commute from there to Redmond would be, though, and he'll want to factor that into his decision...405 can be brutal.

(It was moved because I'd like to keep the Seattle sub-forum for discussions dealing with things inside the Seattle city limits ...for now, anyway. This is subject to change. Thanks. --'rocco

The Bothell to Microsoft commute was one of the key reasons we left the area. My husband frequently sat in traffic ranging from one hour, to an hour and a half, each way - every day. Horrible on our quality of life and family time.

Does it make a difference if the location is the new Issaquah Campus?

Oh yes, it certainly does.

The new Issaquah campus is located a good 15-20 miles from the main campus in Redmond.

The Issaquah Highlands area is being rapidly developed. A huge park and ride facility has just been built and many new sub-divisions and retail developments are being phased in.

It still won't be "cheap" but I still advise to find someplace close to reduce travel time even though rent may be higher. I think it's a good trade off.
