Next month I will be making a very big leap to move to Everett. I have only ever lived in California, and have only been to Washington once. I have never been to Everett though, only Seattle, Bremerton, Port Townsend and a few other places. I am in a precarious situation because I have to move due to my lack of childcare where I currently am. So I will be staying with my ex husband and his new wife for a bit with my two young children. I am leaping in without a job too. My question is, where is the safest place to live? I am looking into the Brisa apartments on Admiralty Way, they seem nice and affordable. It is relatively close, or at least by map, to casino road which I know to avoid. I want the cleanest, safest place, that isn't off the charts in price. I would prefer to stay in Everett. Also, is the job situation fair there? or will I have to commute to Seattle. I am college educated, have experience in a lot of jobs, mostly office work, real estate, property management, and bookkeeping. Frankly, I have done a lot of different jobs. Just trying to get some understanding of the place.

i currently live in everett and if your looking for a safe place everett isnt one of the best choices but if u have to stay in everett i would avoid casino and 7th ave ( by the mall ) 4th ave ( were i live by cascade high school) the farther away from casino the safer you will get and apartment living is some of the worst here in everett unless you want to pay good money for one. if you can i would maybe try the outskirts of lynnwood which is still close to everett. Mukilteo is a pretty nice town lots of apartments that are very nice but a bit more pricy if you have a car the commutes are not bad to those towns from everett. i wold suggest you try and avoid the heart of everett and stay more on the outskirts of the town. if you do not have a car u can still get just about anywhere on a bus they run from lynnwood to everett all the way to seattle but the people on the bus a pretty interesting! as for jobs yes theres jobs here but might take you some time to find one sence your moving up here without a job and need one pretty fast i would suggest the first thing you do is go to Tera staffing group they will find you a temp job until you get on your feet and can find something else but they are very quick. they found my bf a job in 3 days . they manly do warehouse jobs if you dont mind that it will just be the best way to find a quick job here i have been looking for work for about 3 months and still nothing and my bf when he graduated college it took him 4 months of looking for work before he gave up and went to tera staffing! Boeing is hiring as well and they have great pay but bad hours but in my opinion good jobs in everett are hard to find but not impossible ! you can always look at who is hiring over the internet in different towns to kind of get an idea of were the jobs will be at !

Most places in Southern California are rougher than 90% of Everett.

You will be fine.

People look down on Everett, like they do Tacoma. But in reality, Everett is a very nice city. The city really does a good job at keeping streets clean and they have many great parks around the city. They host many events all year round which are perfect for kids, and it is a very nice experience living in Everett. Fun activities like Jetty Island, a free ferry ride to a sandy island, is also real fun in the summer!

If you got more money to spend, I would look along Mukilteo Blvd and the neighborhoods around there. It borders Mukilteo, WA and there are many nice neighborhoods. South Everett by Mill Creek and Lynnwood is more affordable. I don't personally like Highway 99 Everett, it's just a traffic mess. Also north of downtown Everett by the bluffs are some very nice stately homes and nice tree lined neighborhoods. Lots of great places to walk as well.

Shopping can all be done in Everett. The Everett Mall has many major stores around it including Target, Winco, Costco, Best Buy, Trader Joe's, etc.

Downtown is nice and has many historic buildings. Some shops and places to eat as well. Most of Everett's crime is around downtown, and along highway 99. Crime continues to drop in the city.

In short, Everett is very affordable, and living here is cheaper then in other places. You should be safe.

Probably true, but I have done work at some of those Casino Road apartments, and within a few hours time during the day during the week was amazed at how many police cars came in and arrested people for warrants, broke up fights, and always waited for a second car to arrive before going in.

Everett does have it's nice areas, you just need to do the research. There are jobs there but for your kind of work they won't pay as much as in Seattle. I would not want to make the commute either direction between Everett and Seattle.

Well, I decided on the Martha Lake apartments in Lynnwood. It seems that it is the safest area that I can actually afford. There is construction going on, which can be annoying. Hopefully, I will like it there.

Confirming this. Your perspective is skewed. 'Ghetto' in Everett does not mean anything close to Compton/Watts/Inglewood type ghetto. You'll be fine.

That is a good choice. Very close to Everett, and a very decent area. I know some people who live in the Martha Lake area- they love it.
