Hey everyone! I'm still an east coaster for right now, but I'm inching closer and closer to making the big move over to Seattle without a job. I was just wondering if there's anyway to network with people over there before I actually arrive.

I know LinkedIn is supposedly a good start but I kind of despise that website and its clunky interface. I'm very much a people person, I just wish I knew more people in the Emerald City.

Depending on what kind of work you do, there are national and international organizations you could participate in. For example, last week I went to a software user conference and met people in industries similar to mine from all over the US and several other countries, exchanging cards with many that I expect to keep in touch with. If I wanted to move to another area these people are now familiar with my work trough my participation in the workshops.

I also belong to several forums such as this one, including two big ones that have to do with my hobbies on which I moderate, and have met many people all over the country and world through them. I have even met a surprising number of them in person.
