My wife and I may be moving to the Seattle area in the next few months, and in all likelihood I'll be working at or near SeaTac. Since areas in the immediate vicinity of airports are never desirable to live in, what are some good, clean, safe areas (that aren't $$$$$$$ like Bellevue) that are within +/- 30 minutes driving time to the airport? I realize that affordability and safety are inversely proportional, so I'm willing to moderately compromise for the latter.

Thanks for any help.

I believe Burien is on an uphill path, with many improvements occuring here since I moved to the general area 17 years ago (especially recently) - and many more on the way. Since it is west of the airport and flight path, there are plenty of areas in Burien that are not that affected by the aircraft noise. In addition, it's kind of a "forgotten" area - off the beaten track. The western sections are pretty quiet indeed and border very desirable areas near the water, but are still reasonably priced (by Seattle standards). You may want to give it a look.

As Ken has stated, I too believe that Burien has probably been cleaning up its act in recent years. It's still not the best area but will have pockets of good neighborhoods.

Try to look at the area to the south and west of Burien. Areas of Burien that are closer to the water will tend to be better also. Parts of Seahurst are nice. Look too at parts of Normandy Park and the western sections of Des Moines.

Again, you'll find pockets of nice areas within places that don't have the best reputations. Even Federal Way will have its nice neighborhoods.

More info is needed: Family/Single? Schools? Urban/suburbs? Budget?

Otherwise, look through this forum. There's a wealth of information to be had.
