We visited Tamuras on Eastlake last night and it was remarkably good. I would give it a top recommendation. What are your favorites?

Shiro's and Nishino are generally considered the best.

I have had the omakase at Shiro's (served by Shiro-san himself) and the exclusive omakase at Nishino and both were pretty good.

Shiro is considered a pioneer in that he brought sushi to Seattle (or so the legend goes). Supposedly he also worked under Jiro-san in Tokyo. One of Jiro-san's sous chefs is also going to work at Shiro's.

Nishino is supposedly where all of the Japanese baseball players like to hang out.

Sushi Kappo Tamura is also pretty good and deserves honorable mention.

Shiro may be a pioneer, but there's no way he brought sushi to Seattle. Maneki in the International District has been around for 100 years, and was serving sushi before Shiro came to town. Maneki may not be the best, but it can't be beat for old fashioned atmosphere.

Shiro is very good but it's also pretty expensive. For a less expensive but still (imho) very good experience I'd recommend the Pinto Bistro in Capitol Hill on Broadway.
