My daughter and family of three kids moved to seattle because of my grandson's health in georgia. They have been there two weeks and keep getting turned down for a place to rent. They don't have great credit but own a home here in ga and have excellent references. Can anyone help? They are running out of money and can't come home? They will pay their rent and if they for some reason didn't have it they have family that will help. Come on there must be one person out there that can help. Please.

Why are they being turned down? Is it due to their credit? Do they have jobs here? Family locally? Did they just load up the kids and drive to Seattle from Georgia with nothing?

Is it possible you could co-sign an apartment for them? What area in Seattle? Do they have pets, specific amount of bedrooms needed, jobs already lined up or employed at?

Go to Craigslist, in the Seattle appartment/housing section, type "bad credit" into the search terms. All kinds of housing comes up. She may have to double the kids up in rooms and take a 2 bed instead of a 3 bed.........or be in an area right outside of Seattle, like Renton, Auburn, etc.......the other, if she has money saved up, is to offer a higher security deposit or to pay a few months in advance.

Yeah, the problem is that if she has no job, bad credit, etc. it's going to be tough. I'm not sure how eviction laws are here but it's usually expensive and takes a long time to evict someone so most landlords quickly realize that it's better to find a good tenant than it is to rent to someone who might cause problems.

renting for them probably is going to violate the terms of the lease but i suppose it's an option.

i have some rental properties (well, 2) and have heard a lot of horror stories from other owners. 99% of them revolve around people who don't pay their rent and refuse to leave. it also seems like it's pretty common for people to skip out on their final month of rent (since the worst is that you'll just evict them and it'll take too long anyway). if you charged last month rent, they just skip out on the last 2 months of rent...

I don't understand your post. You say you have a 'daughter and a family of three kids'. Where's her husband, if she needs help? If it's 'your daughter' and grandchildren, why don't you help? Maybe her husband or you should start taking on some responsibility for your daughter and family instead of strangers on the internet.

One post wonder maybe? She hasn't been back......

RVD.........If they are skipping out on rent, how will they retain good rental references to rent again in the future? That's scary....As a landlord, I'd prefer a good security deposit, pet/cleaning deposit and maybe a month in advance, and really good rental references in lieu of the good credit. Too many people with bad credit right now due to job loss/foreclosure, that would still pay on time.

They are not the type to skip out on rent. I handle rentals here in georgia. Her husband and her are very responsible people. They had a job lined up and apartment prequalified on internet. Got to Seattle and job fell through along with apartment. They tried to find jobs but ran out of time and money. They are back home with me and I paid for their gas to come home. I understand landlords don't want to get stiffed or property destroyed. I am one. However, sometimes a tenant will come along that will treat your home like it was theirs, capable of doing repairs without landlord paying alot for them, and because of bad credit lost out on this tenant. My daughter is one of them. Not just saying this because she's my daughter. They are saving and hope to move in the next year or so. In the meantime, my young grandson will suffer but hopefully we can try new oinments and rx's to help him. His nana is here to do whatever it takes for him. Many thanks to the replies and we will use the advice in the future.
