Greenlake and Ravenna, Sandpoint and Laurelhurst are beautiful, but there's no nightlife, like you would like. Capitol Hill is good for young singles like you, and there's a nice park there, for walking and quiet time. It's also within walking distance of downtown, if you like to walk. Well-served by public transport, and overall a safe neighborhood.

Hey Titch. I just moved out here recently and making friends when you don't know anyone can be tough. People are a little slow to be friendly but I have had a lot of luck getting to know other people who are new to the area ("transplants") . If you want to meet up and meet up with a few people when you get out here, feel free to send me a message and we can exchange emails or whatever.

It wasn't mentioned in the other posts, but Fremont is a quirky little place that might be just what you're looking for. Based on your age and lifestyle description, this area is a fun little place with a funky little drawbridge and some interesting statuary. It might have a familiar feel if you are from the UK, just because of the quaintness, the little shops, restaurants and pubs/bars. While not exactly European, it does have some old world charm. Check it out... you might like it a lot. Your budget should be fine in this tiny neighborhood and your personal safety good, I would think! The area will provide lots of things to do and see. If you can get a view of the ship canal, you'll see a lot of boat traffic, especially in summer. The drawbridge does affect traffic, but it also adds something special to the feel of the neighborhood. The place has a good vibe and is bicycle and pet friendly!

I don't agree with the recommendation for Magnolia, although for myself I'd LOVE to live there, I'm twice her age with teenagers. Magnolia is quieter, more family friendly and has very few bars and restaurants for a 21 year old (which is why I wanna move there

I'm in Ballard now and that's what I'd recommend for you. TONS of pubs, restaurants, cafes, bookstores and shopping all on foot. They just installed the Rapid Ride D Line (on 15th avenue) straight to downtown where you said you'd like to work. There's no need for a schedule, the stops are that frequent. So no need for a car if you stick close to Market Street and 15th, or at least within several blocks.

Your budget is perfectly good for this area, more than enough for a single person, and they are putting in new apartments at Market and 15th, the other side of Market around 14th, 15th and 67th etc........all new buildings.

You have access to Green Lake, Golden Gardens, Carkeek for running/hiking.
