Any guess on which team we'll steal? (For those wondering, the first link lists out all the possible teams Seattle could take.)

So... who's going for that beer?

If I had my way, the team we'd steal is currently located in Oklahoma City.
But it's probably Sacramento or Charlotte.

I think the jubilation is premature, there's a long road ahead. Finding an available team, King County approval, environmental impact study, probably a few lawsuits. This announcement may be just the push other cities need to come up with plans to save their teams. Never trust David Stern. When all that is done and construction starts will be the time to celebrate. This is just the first hurdle.

Oh, I know it's a process to get that team and that we're dealing with NBA/Stern here... but King County already have given their approval awhile ago.

So now it looks like its just the Environmental Impact, study, then Team NBA... we're getting closer.

It does look like a done deal, but just remember the rumors that Stern vowed to make an example of Seattle by blocking the return of the NBA to Seattle at any cost. Who knows if a) the rumor was true to begin with, b) Stern would be willing to cut off his own nose; c)even if a & b both apply, what happens after Stern retires.

Who knows, but I wouldn't discount the possibilty of Stern pursuing this vendetta on principle. It wouldn't make sense, but then it didn't make sense to move the team from Seattle, the #12 media market, to OKC, the #45 media market.

Why does Stern dislike Seattle?

Because Seattle declined to pony up for a new stadium. Stern was pushing for a new Seattle NBA arena as far back as 2002, just 7 years after KeyArena was built.
Sports | Notes: Stern hints that Sonics will need new arena | Seattle Times Newspaper

The problem was that after Safeco and Quest (now C-link) stadiums were built, the Sonics lost a lot of corporate suite business. KeyArena was no longer viable despite being relatively new. Stern demanded a new stadium, and Seattle-area politicos refused. I think a lot of politicos had taken heat over Safeco field, which was rejected by voters, then built anyway on the taxpayer dime.

According to the rumors when the Sonics moved to OkC, Stern decided that Seattle would be made an example of, so that other cities would not follow suit, refusing demands for new NBA stadiums.
