Kinda odd question, I realize, but I'm new to the area and a casual NBA fan. Given we don't have a team for now (bring back the Sonics!!!!) I guess the Blazers are our regional team? Does ROOT sports or someone else broadcast Portland games on a regular basis or are we pretty much NBA deprived in the Seattle area?

Root Sports doesn't broadcast Blazers games. I think you can suscribe to a Comcast Sports channel that does carry them, but as a whole, Sonics fans didn't become Blazers fans. The Blazers were the hated enemy team for a long time, there was a long rivalry between the two. So I think some Seattle fans would rather root for the Knicks or the Lakers or the Bulls or anybody but the Blazers. The Blazers are the once and future enemy. You can't suddenly adopt them.

Gotcha. Yeah, I know about the rivalry but thought that given the proximity they still might be shown. I just want to watch some NBA! Part of the reason I asked is I was wondering if I should activate NBA League Pass on DirecTV. Thanks!

I don't have cable TV and there is hardly ever any NBA on regular TV, I think only sometimes Sundays on ABC or NBC but then I am not usually at home on Sundays. I've got the league pass which is pretty good and if you've got Comcast internet you also get free access to espn3.com which shows quite a few games during the season. They show different teams all the time, so it's not great if you are following a particular team but if you are just interested in general it's a good option.

And then if you want to see the real thing Portland is only 2.5 hours or so away, I went to a few games last season, it's usually easy to get tickets. I even saw the great Dirk Nowitzki, best 7-foot jump shooter ever

I've got friends in Portland, so usually stay with them over the weekend but in any case Portland is a nice place and worth a visit anyway.

Also, the Washington Huskies college team appears to be Seattle's NBA substitute for the moment. The Gonzaga bulldogs also play one game per season against a high-profile opponent in Key Arena, always a nice event, I've been there a couple of times, great atmosphere. It's called the Battle in Seattle, it's sometime in December this year.

Blazers are on Comcast Sports NW, which is available on the Comcast sports package. The Blazers are not the regional team, the future Sonics are. We hate the Blazers up here.
