I am from Missouri and let me tell you: From Jan.-March, it is really cold here (below 40's), from April-September it's way too hot (Average around 85, but gets into high 90's, 100's) and then from October-December its super cold again (~40's or way below). We get lucky to have maybe 2-3 months where the weather is around ~50-70 degrees, IF we are lucky...So we are either way too hot or way too cold, how is this "better" than Seattle? In my opinion, it isn't. I'd rather have rain 8 months out of the year between 40-60 degrees and have 70's in the summer months and I would be good with that.

True to that. Winters in Idaho were horrible snow and temps sometimes in the negetives. I would take an overcast rainny winter anytime over a cold cold snowy winter that lasts 6 months.

Yeah, I am also a person who suffers from hereditary blood-pressure issues which causes me to be hot after the temps reach 75ish and I sweat like crazy. I am not overweight or anything but its a terrible issue my entire family suffers with. Seattle is a blessing for me. I can be "cool" 9 months of of the year. I love being there with gray skies and a little bit of rain. It keeps things so clean and beautiful. I can see how some people dislike it, but personally (and honestly), I HATE the summer. It is by far my least favorite season. i'd rather be in 4 feet of snow.

50-70s year round would be perfect for me. Seattle is the closest I can get to this while also getting the scenery and activities I want...

Honestly, growing up in Missouri I have only been canoeing a few times, fishing a few times, and I never saw a mountain before in my life before driving up to Washington state this summer from Missouri. Kansas was really boring, but the rest of the drive was just phenomenal through Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and of Wash. I have never had a chance to visit any of those states before (except Wash once, two weeks earlier) and getting to drive up there all by myself with nothing but the AM radio talk-shows playing was a great experience for me. I love the western US. I am glad I took an internship (even though it was in the Tri-Cities lol :P). I couldn't live in the Tri-Cities, but Seattle is the complete opposite for me.

Why isn't this in the weather thread?

Everyone has their preference. It just the Seattle weather complainers are very vocal about it.

If it really is like that, I am in total agreement. More recently it hasn't been that way. Went a bit north and found something better. If you want the "Seattle lifestyle", I guess you roll with the punches. Unless the averages change, I think that kind of weather would NORMALLY be what you could expect.

We rarely get to 90, but the winters do get colder than mentioned above. More so in the eastside hills but even in Seattle itself it can be in the 20s for weeks at a time, and has gotten as low as 12 in the last few years. I would say that from November - March it's more likely to be in the 30s than the 40s, and not likely to hit 55 (when people start wearing shorts) until May.

I am from Nebraska, which has very similar weather to Missouri. I moved here to Seattle 3 years ago, and yes the weather here is far better than back home- those who say it's so bad here in the winter have probably not had to live back there where the weather is so harsh and ugly. The typical 45 degrees with clouds/rain/drizzle here is far, far better than the typical 10-25 degrees we'd have back there which also included frequent snow and ice. And when there is not snow on the ground, the landscape is so dry and dead looking- since grass and trees all go brown and dormant, and everything is dirty from the sand that is put down during snow and ice events. And then there are the summers, yes way too hot and humid all summer, whereas here it's glorious and almost never too hot.

You make a very good point. I moved here from NJ with extreme temperatures as well so for me, it was a welcoming change not to freeze in the winter with snow or roast in the summer with the humidity. The rain can get on your nerves by spring but I can deal with it and I don't let it hold me back from doing things outdoors. I do my daily walks rain or shine and if you have a positive outlook, it can make a difference.
