Hello..
I am preparing to move to Seattle and would like to know from those that live in the city, is there a "main search engine" that locals use to find rental properties in the city? For instance, I am currently residing in Houston and we have a website called HAR.com that lists both properties for rent and purchase. This website is used and recommended by all who live here for searches versus any of the "major" engines (i.e. rent.com or forrent.com, etc).

Thanks!

Craigs List is used a lot, but the rental market is so hot here lately that the best rentals are found by word of mouth or driving around, many are not even advertised. The last 3 people I know that have moved all found their apartment/house by either knowing someone else moving out or driving by and seeing someone moving out, and asking for the landlord's number.

We used Seattle Rental Group to list our rental in Belltown. It's not comprehensive for all rentals downtown but they have many listings.

I used craigslist and hotpad, the latter is quite cool as it is map based

Thanks for this post and all the links on it. I have been wondering the same thing and found this thread by doing a forum search. Any additional info (especially for suburbs) is very welcome! It's so frustrating to try to find a place from far away!
