I was actually surprised to see such overwhelming label consciousness with this one brand, as Seattle otherwise seems to be the exact opposite. I have two coats, one from H&M and one from Gap. No visible labels, neither appear outdoorsy. Hopefully I'll still be able to make a friend. Maybe I'll add a hat with fishing lures or something.
Yes, but are they waterproof H&M and Gap jackets???? I just ponied up for a North Face rain jacket for my 9 year old (had a 25% off coupon thankfully) because the Columbia was only water resistant. You live here long enough you will come to understand that the brand doesn't matter but it must be waterPROOF.

LOL...this thread truly cracks me up.

I adore the PNW, really. I've been out here over 5 years, and am truly sad that I didn't move earlier. But, seriously, bragging about deals on the clothing that the average Seattleite wears? Gosh, I am having visions of the gal next to me on the bus going to work talking about how her clogs were 50 percent off. Eek.

After reading this thread, I'm wondering how I have ever made it through these years without a Northface jacket.

Seriously though, I *get* the whole "getting a deal" thing. While my idea of a deal may be different than others, it's all good. Why pay full price, when you can do a bit of digging and research and look fabulous at 50% off?

Brand new Born brand shoes. I estimate $150 new. I bought for $18 the other day in a thrift store, and the color I love.

UMMM, cheapoes are everywhere.............Seattle didn't invent that.

I'd probably be cheap even if I was a millionaire.

For me, a great buy is any reasonably priced pair of boots that actually fit me. Found a pair of hiking boots for about $15 (half-off) at Big 5 some years back - had to go through about 20 pairs to find the one pair that fit me. Still wearing them, when it's too wet or cold for my New Balance flip-flops (which I got for about $20).

It's like that in the bay area too.

I was meeting a potential investor once at a coffee shop and he pulled up in a $100k bmw 750. I said "nice car" and he said "aw, I usually drive my Prius but my wife took it today so I had to drive the gas guzzler."
